Mike’s focus throughout his career has been helping people get the justice they deserve. He has been an attorney for over 35 years.
Mike established the Ramsey Law Firm in April 2016. He is among approximately 10% of attorneys in Texas who are Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
He has handled a wide variety of cases throughout his career. Mike has helped individuals injured in accidents, citizens harmed by financial institutions misusing their money, people harmed by using tobacco products, and home and business owners whose properties were damaged by hurricanes and windstorms.
Mike has always been a people person and many will tell you that he has never met a stranger. His work ethic and professional relationships resulted in settlement of thousands of cases against insurance companies to benefit the insureds following Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008.
He was also part of the legal team that sued the tobacco industry in the 1990s. That litigation resulted in a historic civil litigation settlement.
Mike is committed to community involvement and support and has served as Chair of the Lamar University Board of Regents, a Director of Community Bank of Texas, and in 2001 was elected by his peers to serve as President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
He has been affiliated with several firms before starting his firm. He started his career at Townsley, Bush & Ramsey where he worked from 1981 – 1988, was a partner at Bush, Lewis Ramsey & Roebuck from 1989 – 1995, served as an equity partner at Provost Umphrey Law Firm from 1995 – 2005, and was Of Counsel to Mostyn Law, where he managed the firm’s Beaumont office from 2005-2015.
As the son of an oil field worker, Mike had an interesting childhood. He’s lived all over the world. Mike has called Texas, Alaska, Singapore, and the Middle East home. He graduated from high school at the Singapore American School, where he first learned the importance of government and realized his goal of becoming an attorney.
Mike attended college at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and was the first in his family to attend college. He learned the importance of a good work ethic from his father and knew that his ability to complete his degree required working through college. After college, Mike worked as a police officer, which allowed him to see another side of the legal system and furthered his desire to be an attorney.
Mike and his wife Myla have been married for over 40 years. They have three children, Katherine, Melissa, and Michael.
